Chuggin’ along the BNSF Railroad

KOH_4042-1

At the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens in Palm Desert, California, volunteers maintain more than 3,300 feet of miniature railroad tracks occupying three quarters of an acre on the Zoo’s grounds. The main line features this G-scale BNSF locomotive traveling on 940 ft of track over realistic--looking waterways and past well--known landmarks, including miniaturized reproductions of historic Old Indio, the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore.

Flashback: The A-10C Thunderbolt II “Warthog”

SANL5602

The A-10 Thunderbolt II “Warthog” is the Air Force’s premier close air support aircraft, providing invaluable protection to our troops on the ground.

We photographed Captain Cody J. Wilton, the USAF Air Combat Command A-10C Thunderbolt II Demonstration Team pilot and commander, in action at the 2019 Great Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach, demonstrating the aircraft’s incredible capabilities.  The Air Combat Command A-10 Demonstration Team is stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona.

The team will appear at the NAF El Centro, California Air Show on March 14, 2020, followed by appearances at airshows across the USA and Canada throughout 2020.

Our visit to Mesa Verde National Park

We made a visit to Mesa Verde National Park near Durango, Colorado last spring. Here are a few photos of this incredible archive of early American inhabitants who called these canyons home over 1400 years ago.

Sun Point View at Colorado’s Mesa Verde National Park view provides an incredible overlook. Without the park guests in the foreground, it’s impossible to comprehend the incredible scale and grandeur of the cliff house dwellings several miles away across the steep canyon.

The massive Cliff Palace is the largest cliff dwelling in North America. But without people to put it in scale, it really looks like a miniature model.

Look closely and you can spot the park rangers conducting an inspection of this smaller cliff dwelling. Can you imagine calling this your home over a thousand years ago?

I hope you’ll have an opportunity to visit Mesa Verde National Park someday.

Breaking hearts at every red light.

If she wasn’t out on her longboard catching waves at Old Man’s, she’d cruise PCH in her vintage Dodge, with the windows rolled down and hair blowing in the wind, breaking hearts at every red light.

Visit the Palm Springs Air Museum

We enjoyed our visit to the Palm Springs Air Museum recently, where 59 flyable and static vintage World War II and Korea/Vietnam era aircraft are on display on the tarmac at the Palm Springs Airport (PSP) and inside four climate-controlled hangars totaling 86,000 square feet.

On many weekends, you can book a ride over the skies of Palm Springs in one of their vintage warbirds, including a C-47 Skytrain, P-51 Mustang, T-28B Trojan or the T-33 Shooting Star Jet.

The Palm Springs Air Museum is located at 745 North Gene Autry Trail.
